Dahlia Dig & Divide Workshop | Saturday, October 24

Spend a crisp fall morning in the dahlia field and learn how to lift, clean, divide, and store dahlia tubers, then take a divided clump home to grow next spring.

This is a real, hands-on farm workshop. In small guided groups, you'll help carefully dig clumps straight from the field and learn how to lift them without damage. We'll wash them at our field-side spraying station. Then we'll head to the work tables, where you'll divide a clump of your own step by step and learn to spot eyes, make clean cuts, and decide which tubers are worth keeping.

You'll leave knowing how to cure and store your tubers so they make it through the winter.

Schedule

• 10:00 Arrival, coffee, pastries, and welcome
• 10:20 Digging in the field in small groups
• 11:05 Washing, then a dividing lesson and hands-on dividing
• 12:15 Curing and storage, then packing up
• 1:00 Wrap-up

What you take home

• 8–10 divided dahlia tubers from one clump (but you can mix with your classmates!)
• A storage box filled with vermiculite
• Instructions for curing and winter storage

Good to know

• There is NO BATHROOM on the farm. WE have an emergency bucket, but otherwise there is a Sunoco gas station on the corner of Campbell and North French/Sweet Home Rd with a nice bathroom.
• The whole workshop is outdoors, in and beside the field. Expect a chilly morning, with mud likely. Dirty hands for sure.
• We provide all tools. They stay at the farm.
• Your tubers need to cure for 24-48 hours at home before you pack them into the storage box. We'll show you how.

What to bring

• Waterproof boots and warm layers
• We will have some mosquito spray, but if you have a preference, bring some too!
• Work or garden gloves
• A travel mug if you'd like extra coffee
  

Location & parking: 1655 Campbell Blvd. Pull in at the Blue house all the way to the back of the driveway and park on the lawn off of the driveway towards the field. 

Weather & refunds: We hope to run the workshop rain or shine, but if the weather is too rainy, we will reschedule for Sunday, November 1st.
